Conclusion

The Web/Library 2.0 could be the effective source for the libraries to develop the collection, to upgrade the services and to change or remixing library services, moving the library boundaries, information that is easily discoverable. With the technologie of Web/Library 2.0 could continue change rapidly and the libraries must continually adapt for the future of information seeking in the world.

RSS Feeds

RSS Feeds and other related technologies provide users a way to syndicate and republish content on the Web. Libraries are creating RSS Feeds for users to subscribe to including updates on new items in a collection, new services and new content in subscription databases. This could gives the update to users and always uptodate in providing information. This is a great impact for the libraries where it gives the updated for the traditional library invironment where the update took more time and the information will less valid to the users. This could see the clear cut in the University of Washington website with information on all the news, events and even users could join their facebook and flickr.
"A new product from a company called BlogBrigge, BlogBridge: Library (BBL), is a piece of software that you can install on your own server, inside your firewall. it;s not the content of the library (the books) but the software to organize the library (the building). BBL potential for libraries to determine due to its being brand new, it is conceivable that this syndication will replace browsing and searching through library websites for content BBL and similar RSS aggregator applications installed in a library's system and coupled with the social network of the library,will enable users to have single, customized, personal library page that syndicates all the library content of interest to them and their research, eliminating irrelevant information. The users will control the page and the content"(Maness, J.M, 2006).

Tagging

Tagging essentially enables users to create subject headings for the object at hand. It allows users to add and change not only content (data) but describing content (metadata). in flickr, users tag pictures. In LibraryThing , they tag books and thereby participate in the cataloging process. tagging simple makes lateral searching easier. "They often-cited example of the U.S Library of Congress subject heading 'Cookery', which no English speaker would use when referring to 'cookbooks', illustrates the problem of standardized classification. Tagging would turn the useless 'cookery' to the useful 'cookbooks' instantaneously and lateral searching would be greatly facilitated" (Maness, J.M., 2006).
This could make user follow both standardized and user-tagged subject that could suitable to the users and this could help libraries to provided information that with qualities that follows the standard and with scientific subject and could be quality research done and cited by the users. This could see the import role of libraries in information literacy learning environment as in the same time could educate users and provide standard information for users bebefits.

Social Networks

"Social Networks such as MySpace, FaceBook, Del.icio.us, Frappr and Flickr (example North Carolina State University with information on their photograph collections)are networks that have massive popularity in Web 2.0. While MySpace and FaceBook could make users to share themselves with one another (detailed profiles of users lives and personalities). Del.icio.us enables users to share Web resources and Flickr enables the sharing of pictures. Frappr is a bit of blended network, using maps, chat room and pictures to connect individuals"(Manness, J.M., 2006). LibraryThing enables users to catalog their books and view what other users share those books, as how librarians recommend reading to users or to one another by viewing one another collections. It also enables them to communicate asynchronously, blog and tag their books.
Social networking could interact between users and librarians, also share and change resources dynamically in an electronic medium. "Users can create accounts with the library networks, see what other users have in common to their information needs, recommend resources to one another and the network recommends resources to users, based on similar profiles, demographics, previously-accessed sources and a host of data that users provide, could make users choose what is public and what is not. This could give a big impact to the library because the library could know what the information that really needs by the users and what type of information that commonly use by the users. This could also boost up the services that provided by the libraries.

Blogs and Wikis

Blogs for libraries is another form of publication as in web-based. This could be a complete collection development processes and the librarian will need to excercise a great deal of expertise and fastidiousness when adding a blog to a collection. As to collection development of the libraries collection.With this use of blog also could be one way of promotion or marketing the collection to the users or to the public as with blogs the users could give comments on the materials that they librarian provided. Blog such as Ohio Historical Society Archives/Library Blog that gives the information on their history collections with archives since 2006. This could give a good comments by users to improve their collection and also one way of promotion their collections.
Wikis are essentially open web-pages where anyone registered with the wiki can publish to it, amend it, and change it. Example such Wikipedia (an online encyclopedia where any registered user can write, amend or otherwise edit articles) Wikis is open web-pages where can enable social interaction among librarians and users. As users share information, ask question, answer question and librarians do the same within the wiki, a record of these are turn into resources for the library as reference. Wiki and Blogs evolve into a more multi-media environment, where both synchronous and asynchronous audio and video collaborations will take place. Blogs are new form of publications and wikis are new forms of group study rooms. With blogs and wiki makes collections and services more interactive and user-centered, enable information consumers to contact information producers and blurs the line between librarian and users, creator and consumer, authority and novice. In this way also could provides the learning skill or critical thinking among librarians and users as for the librarian to be more creative in putting information and while users will communicate with more development comments or analytical comments that could boost the information industries with quality and valuable information for public access.

Synchronous Massaging

With the technologies of instant massaging (IM) is a communication between individuals. Libraries have started provide "chat reference"(Maness, J.M., 2006) services where users could communicate with librarians much as they would in a face-to-face reference context.. With this IM technologies not only communication but also co-browsing, file sharing, screen-capturing and data sharing and mining of previous transcripts. This could make easier access to users, quickly and expertly to users. Not only text-based nature of IM but know users could experience audio and video messaging. Not only libraries placing links to their chat reference services the subscribe databases but also that the link to the library holding collection in OPAC that link to the databases and also to the library collections.

With the Library 2.0 also offering help when users are lost and will offer immediate real time assistance. This allows reference services in an online media rather then the traditional services of the physical library. These for the first time in the history of libraries, there will be continuously collected transcription of the reference transaction, always awaiting evaluation, analysis, cataloging and retrieval for future reference. These could also make the users organize their materials as to boost the quality of research in the world that the libraries could contributes.

Theory of Library 2.0 with four elements

Theories for Library 2.0 could be understood to have these four essential elements:-

  • User-centered - users participate in creation of the content and services that they view where the libraries web-presence it in their Library 2.0 and the funtion of the library and users are shown.
  • Provides a multi media experience - the collections and services of the Library 2.0 contain video and audio components.
  • Socially rich - two ways of communication where it includes users presences as the way to communicate with the librarians and others as value added information to meets the users satifaction.
  • Communally innovative - Libraries as part of comunity services and the library should change according to the needs of users with Library 2.0 the users are allow to change the libraries as to utilize information. (Maness, J.M., 2006)

Definition of Web/Library 2.0

According to Tim O'Reilly "Web 2.0 is the network as platform, spanning all connected devices; Wen 2.0 applications are those that make the most of the intrinsic advantages of the platform: delivering software as a continually-updated service that gets better the more people use it, consuming and remixing data multiple sources, including individual users, while providing their own data and services in a form that allows remixing by others, creating network effects through an 'architecture of participation', and going beyond the page metaphor of the Web 1.0 to deliver rich user experiences" (O'Reilly, T., 2005-2009).

From this definition it is clear that the web 2.0 is a platform of networking between one individual with another individual or may be the community as whole where the information or data could be transparent to others. Basically the Library 2.0 is application of interactive and multi-media web-based technologies as to web-based library services and collections. These really suite the libraries aim as to provide information or data that valuable to the users as not only within the libraries building but across the wider scope with the use of technologies where it could reach the whole world. These is a clear cut definition about the technologies Web/Library 2.0 could change the environment of Libraries in providing useful, quality and valuable information to the users need and satisfaction.
